Company history

1994
The company was founded under the name SYNTHON AcMaRi Chemie GmbH & Co. KG in the Bitterfeld-Wolfen Chemical Park – the place where Agfa had developed the modern colour film decades earlier and where ORWO Filmfabrik Wolfen had produced photographic materials up until 1992.

The motivation was to preserve the extensive knowledge of the local chemists, engineers and technicians with regard to the synthesis of dyes, heterocyclic compounds and intermediates, and to use it for the development of new, marketable products.

1996
SYNTHON gained the renowned company DKSH (formerly Nihon Siber Hegner) as exclusive representative for the Japanese market and successfully began distribution of its products in Japan.
The introduction of a new "Liquid Crystals" product line is based on the know-how of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg.

1997
The company Echo Chemical Co. Ltd started to market SYNTHON products successfully in Taiwan.

2002
The company changed its name to SYNTHON Chemicals GmbH & Co. KG.
SYNTHON purchased the company building and began modernising and converting 1700 square meters of usable floor space into production facilities, laboratories, warehouses and offices.

2004
Acquisition of 10000 square meters of building land to develop opportunities for further expansion.

2006
Commissioning of a kilo laboratory for the production of high-quality materials on a scale from 1 to approx. 20 kg, equipped with reactors from 20 to 50 litres.
A new filling station with modern aeration and ventilation technology for the filling of solid and liquid substances was put into operation.

2007/2008
A pilot plant with two 100-litre multi-purpose units and the associated peripheral technology (thermostats, filters, dryers and rotary evaporators) was opened.
The entire production was equipped with a modern aeration plant.

2008/2009
SYNTHON started to operate a research laboratory and a new kilo laboratory in which work can be carried out under "yellow room conditions" (exclusion of UV light). This opened up the possibility for the company to produce UV-light-sensitive products (e.g., acrylates and methacrylates, as well as photoinitiators).

2012
The company began cooperating closely with ASV innovative Chemie GmbH

2014
SYNTHON took over the chemicals business, employees, business equipment, stock and know-how of ASV innovative Chemie GmbH, thereby strengthening its research and production capacity. This increased the usable floor space to a total of 2000 square metres.

2015
In September, a sum of 250,000 € was invested in a new analytical laboratory and the reconstruction of a large synthesis laboratory.

2016
Expansion of the "photoinitiators" product line and transition into the production area under "yellow room conditions"

2017
Transition of new medical devices into production

2018
Modernization of the analytical laboratory with GC and FTIR

2019/2020
Modernization of the analytical laboratory with GC/MS. New 150 litres multipurpose glass-lined reactor with 30 litres rectification unit (Hastelloy) and gas scrubber

2021
Sales of liquid crystals, reactive mesogens, crown ethers and calixarenes via our own web shop. Customers can order individual quantities in the gram range.

2022/2023

For lab-scale syntheses, PerkinElmer‘s electronic lab notebook “Signals Notebook” is used.
